Beverley return to familiar surroundings after being either away from home or games postponed due to the weather in nearly a month.
Some good showings against some strong opposition has not dented the confidence of the men from Beaver Park and this week see’s them take on Wirral who have been able to string together 8 wins this season compared to Beverley’s solitary win against Burnage.
Wirral won the earlier encounter against Beverley 39 points to 29 where Beverley showed more than enough that day with their squad to feel positive about this weeks game. Director of Rugby, Junior Tupai commented:
“We’re looking forward to this week. We showed in patches last week against Waterloo (4th place) how competitive we can be. We had chances to go into half- time with the lead as I felt we dominated much of that 1st half.”
“Some refereeing decisions not quite going our way and one lapse in concentration and we go into the 2nd half 14 points to 7 down. But, there were plenty of positives and I know the lads are excited about this week.”
Wirral arrive on Saturday having beaten Billingham convincingly last week and will be looking to complete the double over Beverley. Tupai continued:
“We’re under no illusions that Wirral are just going to turn up and give us the win. We’ll have to play at our best to turn them over. Billingham have some strong backs and defensively, Wirral must have been strong to contain Billingham to just 6 points.”
“But we’ll be ready, our supporters have been great this year and that’s why it’s great to be a part of this club”.
Beverley can look to select from a strong squad this week with the backline looking settled with the return of Robbie Davidson at fullback and Ryan Murray playing well last week at scrum half.
The forwards look to have some steel about them with the return of Antony Maka from injury but this is tempered by the loss of Stu Nel who is unavailable for personal reasons.
