Local Man Urges People To Be More Security Conscious When Its Comes To Their Bikes

Mark Bucknall is warning other cyclists to be more careful and security conscious when it comes to their bike after his was stolen.

Mr Bucknall was speaking after thieves stole his cycle worth £600 from a garage Grove Park Drive, Beverley.

Speaking to HU17.net Mr Bucknall said;

“I purchased the bike in October and have only just got round to using it. On Saturday I took it out for the first time and then left it locked in my garage.”

“It was stolen between Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th. I have been scouring the internet looking at EBay and Stuff For Sale sites in an attempt to locate it but without any luck.”

“Like a lot of people I was using an App to track my progress which pin pointed where my journey started and ended, showing the exact location of the bike.”

“I shared that information on social media, myself and the local police seem to think the that it is likely the thieves used this information to find and steal my bike.”

Mr Bucknall says his bike is covered by insurance though he has to fork out £200 towards the cost.

While he is upset about having his own bike stolen he said this should be lesson to everyone about being a bit more security savvy when it comes to using Apps and protecting their belongings.

“There is a lesson to be learnt here. If you are going to use these Apps then take the time to set the security settings and think long and hard before you share that information.”

“My other tip to people is that if you purchase an expensive bike let your insurance company know as soon as possible. Had I let them know sooner I may not have had to pay so much excess.”

Anyone who may have any information about the location of Mr Bucknall ‘s bike should contact
