Bartoline, the VIP of DIY has taken on an apprentice for the first time in the company’s 139 history as they look to shape their staff for the future.
Mathew Hotham was presented with a certificate by Simon Barton, the Managing Director of Bartoline after successfully completing his course in engineering maintenance 6 month’s ahead of schedule in January this year.
Commenting on the historic day Simon said;
“In the past we have brought people in with experience though it has always not worked out for us. While they have the skills and experience they come to us with pre conceived ideas as to how a job is done.”
“As a company we sat down and had to work out a way to solve this problem and an apprentice was the obvious solution.”
“By bringing an apprentice into the company we are able to teach them how we work so we are able to mould them from the start so they fit with our business perfectly.”
Mathew will play a key role in the company helping to maintain the diverse variety of plant that is located across our two sites.
Simon added;
“We work with powders and liquids, it is a very unique situation. Mathew will work with two experienced engineers to keep our machines rolling as he refines his skills needed to do the job.”
“As a business we need to keep all our machines up and running, downtime is costly to us so one of things Mathew will need to learn is preventive maintenance. He will need to know when a part on a machine is about to fail something that only comes with experience.”
Bartoline is one of the top three employers in Beverley, they currently have over 100 people working across their two sites that produce decorating sundry products which are distributed extensively through retail, wholesale and trade outlets throughout the United Kingdom and an ever increasing number of countries overseas.
Simon feels says that although it is seen as fashionable to take on an apprentice Bartoline have appointed Mathew with one eye on the future, he said;
“We have not just employed someone for the sake of it. We had need in our business and it just so happens an apprentice fits that need. If in the future we identify other needs then we will most certainly see if an apprentice is right for us.”
“Mathew has made a promising start to what we anticipate will be a long and successful career with Bartoline. The Directors and staff wish to congratulate him on his achievements so far.”
Mathew himself was delighted to be the company’s first apprentice, he said;
“I am delighted to be the first apprentice to complete my course with Bartoline. I find the work varied and interesting and wish to thank HETA and the Bartoline team for their support throughout my training.”
