Beverley Whitestar Wanderers have moved to within two point of league leaders Springhead after they beat their title rivals 2-1 in a top of table clash.
Owen Parnaby and Ben Pearson got the all important goals to keep their championship dreams alive by claiming all three points on poor pitch at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
Speaking after the game, manager John Blake told HU17.net;
“The pitch was in a poor state but both teams looked to play football and kept the spectators entertained despite the wind and rain!”
“When we scored our second goal through Pearson early in the second half and were dominating possession it looked like we would end up comfortable winners.”
“Springhead fought back and following a goal mouth scramble they pulled one back and the last twenty minutes was very tight and was happy to hear final whistle.”
“We started the game 5 points behind top of the table, Springhead have a game in hand so the win was vital for us. It means the title is in our own hands with five games left to play.”
“Due to postponements earlier in season we will have to play the return fixture at Springhead in two weeks and with games also to play against the next three teams in league it will be a difficult run in for us but boys will take a lots of confidence from this victory.”
Next up for Whitestar is an away day as they face fifth placed Cottingham Rangers Cobras in Hull Boys Sunday Football League.
