This Wednesday, 8th April from 9am to 3pm, will see the first of six monthly local produce markets to be held at Beverley’s Wednesday Market.
In a statement released by the organisers Beverley Town Council, they said;
“Tomorrow will see 18 local produce stalls offering the very best in locally produce food and drink and there will also cooking demonstrations, entertainment by the Beverley Garland Dancers and acoustic young musicians the GTA Band.”
“Professor Fiddlesticks will be entertaining children with circus skills and the Beverley Minster Youth Group will be organising lots of fun Easter activities for children to enjoy. Children can also get involved decorating cookies with Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware.”
One of the cooking demonstrations in the mobile kitchen will be given by Luke Underwood, sous chef at the Star @ Sancton.
Commenting about the event Chef Ben Cox said:
“The hard work is certainly paying off for hard working Luke. He started with us as a school leaver 5 years ago and now he is one of our key members of staff.”
“He is dedicated to using the best of local produce. He is definitely a great ‘Star at Sancton’ thoroughbred chef.”
“It’s great that Beverley Town Council is offering this showcase for young local chefs and promoting locally grown and produced food and drink.”
Other cooking demonstrations will be given by Patrick’s Macarons, Side Oven Bakery, The Hull Pie and Beverley Tickton Grange.
Cllr David Elvidge hopes it will help get more people to shop locally, speaking about the event said;
“The Wednesday market project is seen as a way of rejuvenating the market that takes pace on a Wednesday. By introducing more local fresh produce it is enabling small businesses around the town a place to showcase their wares in an affordable manner and we hope encouraging our residents to shop local.”
Beverley Town Council hope that by organising the event not only will it help to regenerate the Wednesday Market area of the town but also bring more visitors to the town and enjoy all that Beverley has to offer.
Mayor of Beverley Councillor Paul McGrath who will open the event said:
“Beverley Town Council is delighted to be officially opening the first Local Produce Market.”
“We will be giving away a local food hamper on the day, so we would encourage people to support this new market and come to join in the fun.”
“Beverley Town Council envisages that this mid-week local produce market will attract people who live or work in Beverley along with visitors to the town, to sample the mid-week delights that Beverley has to offer.”
Further dates for all of the local produce monthly markets, each held on a Wednesday, are 13th May, 17th June, 15th July, 19th August and 16th September.
