Following an ugly political fracas on Saturday in Beverley currently being investigated by Humberside Police.

Labour MPs Karl Turner and Diana Johnson will formally launch East Riding Labour Party’s local government manifesto on Monday 13 May. The event will take place at 4:30pm at the town’s Market Cross.

It is hoped that there will be no repeat of the weekend incident when, it Is alleged, East Riding Council candidate George McManus was assaulted by Tory Councillor Bryan Pearson.

It’s also alleged that Councillor Pearson was wielding a knife which he was using to remove Labour Party poster signs from lamp posts.

Speaking today Mr McManus said;

“The incidents on Saturday are being investigated by the Police. It is our aim to have a peaceful event and I hope the ugly scenes of Saturday will not be repeated.”

“However we will not be intimidated by the Tories or anybody else in exercising our democratic rights and in our engagement with the public.”

“There are serious issues we must discuss in the run up to the Council elections. These are the focus of our local government manifesto.”
