There is a spectacular line up of local talent when Quiet Riot returns to Hodgsons in Beverley on April 24th . This month’s line up comprises of Beverley soloist Imogen Hart , Queenan Cox, The Quicksilver Kings and headline act The Mighty and The Moon
Quiet Riot offers an opportunity for music fans in Beverley to enjoy some of the best music from the Hull and East Yorkshire music scene and gain a taste of the acts who perform at the local festivals such as the Humber Street Sesh, Freedom Festival and Cornucopia. The Mighty and The Moon and Quicksilver Kings have played at all these events in 2014 and both they and Queenan Cox are firm fixtures in the playlist of David Burns on Radio Humberside. ‘Burnsy’ is a keen promoter of local bands and all three acts are highly rated locally
The Mighty And The Moon blasted into existence in 2012. The four piece from Yorkshire, UK blend Alt-Country, Folk and Indie Rock to create a musical formula that is instantly recognizable. Each song stands on it’s own with each persons influences shining through to create a dynamic, powerful and emotional sound.
Formed in Hull, UK and feature a Welsh brother and sister rhythm section. The band have already gained an impressive image and reputation as a professional, hard working and creative outfit.
The band have played many high level gigs, highlights of which were supporting The Dunwells, Dancing Years, Terrorvison, Danny and the Champions of the World, as well as selling out many shows in Hull, Leeds, Manchester and London. The self funded album Songs of the Morning Bird received a large amount of airplay on the BBC and was picked by New York radio as album of the week. This has already sold around 900 units, both in CD form and downloads and continues to sell steadily.
The Quicksilver Kings perform original 60’s inspired country blues-pop, fronted by singer, songwriter and poet, Keith Hagger. After appearing on Channel 4’s The Secret Millionaire in 2009, Keith cut his first demos at the Warren and went on to play the main stage at Freedom Festival. His vocal style is reminiscent of old classics like Buddy Holly and The Everley Brothers yet has a freshness to it and never fails to blow people away. Keith has since joined forces with local musicians to form The Quicksilver Kings and they have performed at all the local festivals and on BBC Introducing
Hull based guitarist/singer/songwriter John Cox has been writing, recording and performing since the age of fifteen. His sound is best described as melodic and funky with a soulful edge. Also Hull based – bassist /singer/songwriter Rosie Queenan joined forces with John in the autumn of 2013 . Their shared love of hooky songs with strong vocal harmonies soon became a feature of their sound together.
Throughout 2014 they played all over the region and released their debut ep. ‘Play It Cool’, and in 2015 have already performed a live BBC Introducing Humberside session in January, and played live on the Burnsy show on BBC Radio Humberside in March. A second ep. will be released in the summer.
Imogen Hart is a 15 year old singer/songwriter from Beverley who began playing the guitar two years ago quickly progressing from playing covers to writing her own material. Under the watchful eye of local charity Freedom Road Creative Arts, Imogen has made great strides in her song writing ability and has impressed people such as Stew Baxter from Warren Records and Alan Raw; the latter of which has resulted in her first live session and regular airplay on Alan’s BBC Introducing show.
Imogen is currently working on new material and is gearing up for a busy summer where you can catch her live at Humber St. SESH, Tribfest and the Freedom Festival amongst others.
As well as the performers the ever popular Rebellious Jukebox dj’s will be playing their tunes till 12.45 as the dancing continues well after the last performer has completed their set on the evening. The Rebellious Jukebox provide the soundtrack to the evening with some of the best alternative sounds from the past 50 years with everything from the MC5 to Manic Street Preachers. Quiet Riot can be regarded as a combination of the Sesh and Spiders Nightclub in Beverley.
The gig starts at 8.30 and admission is £5 on the door . Advance tickets of £4 are also available from Minster Records in Beverley, Molescroft Newsagents, Costcutter Cherry Burton and the Chinese Laundry in Hull City Centre.
