One Of Australia’s Most Significant Aboriginal Songwriters To Perform In Beverley

Beverley Folk Festival joins forces with the East Riding Theatre which plays host to a remarkable and unique musician when Frank Yamma, visits the theatre on 28th April.

An amazing indigenous singer-songwriter from the Central Australian desert, Yamma brings to life stories and songs of the struggles of the aboriginal people of Australia.

Frank will be supported by local singer, songwriter, Alex Golisti, blending English and American folk elements with a blues infused guitar style and honey-gravel vocals, he has carved his own distinctive style with unabashed Rimbaudian imagery, impassioned vocals and ramshackle powered guitar playing.

Listening to Yamma’s songs and hearing him sing his Australian “blues”, is an education in itself.

He draws the listeners into the lives of the aboriginal people, the suffering they endured in the past and the results of that in the twenty-first century Australia.

Having heard him once, his audiences cannot help but want to discover more about this man and his people.   A night to be cherished and not to be missed.

The performance by Alex is promoted by the Beverley Folk Festival which is showcasing the best of local and regional emerging artists, as a part of its “Folk Rising Project”, presented by the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

Another Pre-Festival showcase concert featuring more emerging artists, Maia, Holy Moly and the Crackers, The Rachel Hammer Band and Niamh Boadle will take place at the theatre on 6th June.

Tickets cost £12 – £14 and are available online or from the Box Office East Riding Theatre. For further details or to book your tickets you can call the box office on 01482 874050.
