Tour de Yorkshire at East Riding Theatre
East Riding Theatre in Beverley welcomes the Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 2 May when it opens the doors to the public for the day.
Last year’s ‘Grand Depart’ was such a huge success that this year’s cycle race is sure to be hugely popular with the second leg of the three day event passing through Beverley on its way to Malton and then on to York.
The theatre will be open from 10.30 am right through to the evening when John Godber and Jane Thornton will be back on stage in their current production of ‘Shafted’ which runs at ERT from 25 April until the 10 May.
Gordon Meredith, one of ERT’s Directors said:
“We have been planning to open our cafe bar during the daytime as well as in the evening when a show is on. So when we found out that the race will go right past our front door it seemed a perfect time to launch it.”
“We expect that people will be lining the pavements to see the cyclists pass by, and as a member of ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ (the co-organisers of the race with ASO in France) we thought, what better way to launch the cafe than to show the race on the big screen and open up for drinks and refreshments for the public.”
“Visitors to the theatre will also be able to buy tickets for any of the upcoming shows from the box office which will be open all day.”
“The Tour de Yorkshire event at ERT is free and visitors will be able to watch the race in the cafe bar, or on the big screen in the theatre after the cyclists have been through the town.”
“People can come into the theatre during the day before the race and once it has passed by us, can return to the theatre to watch the rest of the race on the TV, and have a drink in the bar. We will also have a pop up cafe at the front of the theatre, its sure to be a fantastic day.”
The race starts at 11.20am and is expected to reach Beverley sometime around 12.45pm and should be all over by around 3:30pm, with the last two hours being shown live on TV.
