Say No to Development on Grovehill Road Field

Say No to Development on Grovehill Road Field

After all the chaos the residents of Beverley have suffered in recent years you’d think the East Riding of Yorkshire Council would look elsewhere for their development needs. You’d be wrong.

But it seems they’re not happy with a beautiful new shopping complex creating traffic troubles and parking problems along Grovehill Road and St Nicholas Road, unsatisfied that the Grovehill Road Junction has already earned a reputation for ridicule. Independent businesses and national franchises alike in the area have already suffered enough from the road works, but the council’s quota for development is still unfilled as Swinemoor’s congestion now brings most of Beverley and Tickton to a standstill when things fail to run smoothly.

While the town struggles under the existing works, plans are already in place for the next round of developments. As well as the headline housing developments around the outskirts of the town, what little green space left within the town boundary is under threat and centuries of social history with it.

Once again Grovehill Road and Flemingate neighbourhoods are targeted for housing and business development. The council has allocated land on the corner of St Nicholas Road and Grovehill Road for development within the next five years as well as the Junior School site once the replacement building is finished.

Proactive Petition

The field is used by many of the residents for recreational purposes, one of the few places left where a child can play safely. The school building is home to a town heritage which brought many in the community together. In a proactive attempt to communicate with the council, residents have already started a petition even though no planning application has been made.

Also under threat is the Laurels and Lilacs site on Grovehill Road, and intentions to explore further development of the Sensor Park area on Holmechurch Lane.

  1. We do not want anymore houses. ..I feel suffocated everywhere I go in beverley!

  2. I have just spoken with ERYC Strategic Planning, this grassed area is protected open space, there are no plans and never have been to develop it.
