Ian Pollard has expressed his disappointment to how the Hull and District League was brought to a conclusion after Beverley were denied the title despite finishing top of the league.
At the end of their winter campaign, Beverley were joint top with Three Tuns.
Mr. Pollard speaking about the what has happened said;
“After speaking to the Hull and District League management committee yesterday on behalf of Beverley ARLFC, I would like to inform everyone of the club’s disappointment in the recent decision made by the league to name Three Tuns as champions of the 2014/15 season.”
“Despite the club finishing joint top of the league alongside Three Tuns on 32 points, the management have explained that they have awarded the First Division title to Three Tuns due to Beverley opting to join the Yorkshire Men’s League for the summer campaign.”
“I understand that the decision was only made at the most-recent management meeting by vote, and the club was not aware this would happen when we first stated we would join the YML at the end of the regular season.”
“As a club, we wanted to build on what has been an extremely successful winter season with a fresh challenge in the Yorkshire league. We have never rejected the idea of returning to the Hull and District League in the future.”
“We applied to join the YML in January 2015 and gave notice to the Hull and District League immediately. The club made it clear that we wished to fulfil all our remaining league games and, with thanks to the fixture’s secretary Alan Parker, we did this.”
“It is a shame the league has been decided in this manner following three close and entertaining encounters between us and Three Tuns throughout the campaign, two in the First Division and one in the Tom Beautiman Cup.”
“We have competed in the division for over 15 years and always adhered to the rules and regulations, exemplified by our actions following this year’s Tom Beautiman Cup Final against Hull Dockers. We sportingly conceded the game after it was abandoned due to a serious injury to one of our own players, even though we could have insisted on a replay.”
“I would personally like to thank all the players, coaching staff and supporters on what has been a fantastic season. It is disappointing our Hull and District League campaign has had to end on this note.”
“ I would appreciate if everyone could share this message to raise awareness of the squad’s achievements over the past year which will go largely uncredited following the Hull and District League’s recent decision.”
“Onwards and upwards to a new season and a new challenge for the club.”
“Up the Beverley!”
Congratualtions Beverley
A very narrow minded and strange decision to say the least.
Never the less the records will show who finished to of the league ,well done Beverley it has been a pleasure watching you .
It’s a shame it has been decided this way as the lads, including my self at Three Tuns would of much preferred to play for it. However? The powers that be have spoken and we thoroughly deserve the title. It has been a great year and we’ve had some great battles with a few teams, especially Beverly. Good Luck in the Yorkshire League boys! All the best
