With only a few days to go till the 33rd Beverley Folk Festival kicks off, ticket sales have exceeded all previous year and organisers are looking forward to a bumper year.
The festival’s Artistic Director, Chris Wade said;
“I am delighted by the interest in the festival this year. We have a top rate line-up of artists to interest all tastes and ages. While British folk music, both traditional and new, remains at the heart of the festival, we also feature Americana, World music, Blues, Classic Rock, a variety of acoustic performances, Morris dancers and much more.”
“Comedy features strongly with the hugely popular Patrick Monahan and the New Rope String Band, and a full programme of literature a poetry events, including the international best selling crime writer Mark Billingham. Artists are coming from as far afield as Australia and the United States, as well as some of the best in local and emerging artists.”
Beverley Folk Festival provides a rich cultural mix, offering a weekend of memories for young and old and organisers are hopeful that record numbers of people will enjoy this major event in the local and national calendar.
With the event now firmly established in its new home at Beverley Racecourse with the adjacent ancient pasture land of Beverley Westwood, the event is situated in the perfect spot to ensure an unforgettable weekend.
The Festival Village area of the site provides opportunities for visitors to sample some of the music showcases, craft and music fair and real ale bars, free of charge. A range of activities for Children of all ages also ensures that all the family has a chance to experience the atmosphere of the festival.
A shuttle bus runs continually for Friday through to the early hours of Monday morning to enable visitors to travel effortlessly between the centre of town and it various fringe venues and the main festival site. For the first time this year, the newly established East Riding Theatre will provide a place for informal music and song sessions and for the various dance teams that perform throughout the town over the weekend, to demonstrate their performances.
For the first time a Bonus concert is to take place on the Thursday 18th June with the world’s most acclaimed Beatles tribute band, The Bootleg Beatles. Not only will it be the group’s first time in Beverley, it will be almost 20 years since they played in Hull, where they appeared at Hull City Hall in 1996.
