East Riding residents will have a chance to bring their ‘Wild Things’ to join the Big Wild Rumpus at selected East Riding Libraries on Saturday (13 June) at 11am, and take part in a nationwide storytelling of Maurice Sendak’s children’s classic Where the Wild Things Are.
This fun event celebrates this well loved book, and actively encourages gnashing of terrible teeth; rolling of terrible eyes and showing of terrible claws, as young and old alike unleash their inner wild things! Each site will also have a variety of crafty activities and fancy dress is most definitely welcome!
The event is organised by publishers Penguin Random House in conjunction with Wild Rumpus CIC, a social enterprise established to encourage increased, meaningful family engagement. Throughout the United Kingdom, the reading is taking place in many regional libraries, book stores, outdoor activity centres, art galleries and even the Sous- Bois Bilingual Forest Community in France.
Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture, said: “I hope lots of families will come along and join the Rumpus. After all – roaring in a library is something you never thought you’d be allowed to do!”
East Riding Libraries hosting the event are as follows: Beverley Library, Bridlington North Library, Flamborough, Goole Library, Hessle Library, North Ferriby Library, South Cave Library, Stamford Bridge Library, Swanland Library, Willerby Library, Withernsea Library at the Withernsea Centre
