Beverley AC Athletes Participate In Two 10K Races

Beverley AC’s athletes were in action at two 10k races last weekend. On Friday evening, 16 runners took part in the inaugural Sledmere Sunset Trail 10k, in the grounds of Sledmere House.

Organised by Driffield Striders, this great new race took place wholly off-road, taking in two different laps on estate tracks and fields and including some scenic running through woodland and some challenging climbs and descents. The race attracted 210 finishers, including representatives of many local running clubs. The winner was Darryl Davison (Highgate Harriers, London) who completed the course in an impressive 35:04; he was followed in by local runner Phill Taylor (Bridlington Road Runners) in 35:29. Driffield’s own Sian Morgan was the first woman to finish, crossing the line in 44:22.

First Beverley runner home was Lewis Holloway, who took 8th place and 2nd in his V40-49 age group, in a time of 38:08. He was followed by Steve Ostler who was 13th in 40:01, and Curtis Arnott who is making a great transition into the senior section of the club, and who crossed the line in 41:45, taking 17th place. Christine Whitehouse took the honours in her FV60-69 age group, coming first in 1:04:00, while Philip Powditch was second in his V60-69 group, coming home in 52:00.

46 runners also completed a 4k race at Sledmere, taking in the challenging first lap of the 10k route. Scarborough AC’s Kyle Richardson won in an impressive 14:17, while the first girl was Issy Nichols, in 16:27. Beverley AC’s junior section fielded an impressive 18 runners, with Jacob Chastney and Taylor Arnott putting in great runs and taking 2nd and 3rd places in 14:31 and 15:02 respectively. Chloe Wilson was 3rd girl, finishing in 19:57. New members Bailey Jenkinson and Evie Ostler also ran well, finishing in 16:59 and 19:26 respectively.

On the Sunday, seven Beverley AC athletes completed the Hull 10k, one of a series of races run for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal to raise funds for children’s and cancer charities. This is a big race, with 3882 runners completing the course. Beverley’s Stephen Peacock had a good race to finish 1st in his M55 age group, in 40:43. Angela Collins also had a good run and was 5th in her F50 age group, crossing the line in 50:07. The overall winner was Alec Gibson (East Hull Harriers), who finished in just 33:31; the first female runner was Jo Maddick (Kingston upon Hull AC), finishing in 36:28.
