Recycling Officers Out And About During National Recycle Week

Waste and recycling officers will be out and about in towns and villages next week offering advice and information to mark national Recycle Week (June 22-28).

The team from East Riding of Yorkshire Council will take their van and trailer to Bridlington, Beverley, Pocklington, Hedon and Hutton Cranswick to promote household recycling and advise residents how to reduce waste around the home.

They will be on hand to speak to anyone with waste and recycling issues, or answer their questions, take requests for blue bins and kitchen caddies, and will also be handing out information leaflets and recipe cards to help you make the most of your leftovers.

Recycle Week, now in its 12th year, is a celebration of everything about recycling and this year’s theme is Recycling Around The Home. The aim is to encourage people to think about the many things that can be recycled from all the rooms in the house – and placed in their blue or brown bins.

That includes shampoo bottles from the bathroom (blue bin), deodorant cans from the bedroom (blue bin), junk mail and newspapers from the living room (blue bin), and all types of food waste from the kitchen (brown bin).

Councillor Symon Fraser, the council’s portfolio holder for asset management, housing and environment, said: “We are happy to support Recycle Week and always encourage residents in the East Riding to do their bit by recycling as much as they can, throughout the year.

“Next week’s visits are a great opportunity for residents to come along and talk to our officers directly about all aspects of recycling and reducing waste.

“We still have work to do to make sure that residents know which bins to use for different materials.”

The waste and recycling officers will be at:

• Monday 22 June – Behind The Spa, Bridlington, 10am-2pm
• Tuesday 23 June – Pocklington Market, 9am-3pm
• Wednesday 24 June – Beverley Wednesday Market, 9am-3pm
• Thursday 25 June – Hedon Co-operative, 10am-2pm
• Saturday 27 June – Hutton Cranswick Village Day

No appointment is necessary, residents can just go along to the council’s van and trailer during the day.

The council’s waste and recycling officers are also available, all year round, to do talks and presentations for community groups and schools in the area.
