Stand in Skipper Keeps Beverley On Course

Beverley Town Cricket Club third team continue to challenge for the division title after another resounding victory at a rain effected Brandesburton this weekend.

After the rain stopped, a 36 over game was agreed. Beverley fielded first and reduced the opposition to 130 all out with Matthew Fitzpatrick (4 for 11), Kieran O’Brian (2 for 22) and Alex Nightingale (2 for 17) the main wicket takers on the day.

Beverley made light work of the total and eased home with 16 overs to spare with Ben Fish (44) and Tim Smith (54*) the run scorers. This means that the team are only 22 points from top of the league.

After the game HU17.net spoke with stand in skipper Alex Nightingale, he said;

“I thought generally all areas of our game were excellent today, the attitude from the players really made it difficult for the opposition to have any impact on the game, everyone chipped in with a good performance and did a job for the team.”

“It was great to see Kieran O’Brian back at the club and showing us what we have missed this year.”

However it was Matthew Fitzpatrick’s bowing that really put the team on the front foot.

“I thought Fitzy was superb today, 4 for 11 is a really top effort on such a small ground, it should have been 5 or 6 but im sure he will be pleased with his 4.”

“It’s a shame he is now away for the rest of the season but it gives another opportunity to one of the 4th team players. I also want to praise Owen Parnaby for his bowling today, he is only 11 and no one likes getting out to an 11 year old, but he bowled a really tidy spell today during a tricky period.”

“Confidence is really high at the moment and everyone is enjoying being apart of the run we are on, we just need to make sure it continues to make sure we stay in touch with the league leaders.”
