Sessay Remain On Course For League Title After Beating Beverley

Beverley Town Cricket Club’s second team went down at home as the league leaders Sessay claimed all 30 points with a commanding 144 run victory.

Sessay’s march towards the Hunters York and District Senior Cricket League Division One title showed little sign of slowing as they reached the season’s mid point still unbeaten, having won nine of their eleven matches.

Joseph Watson (92no) top scored for the division’s leading side as they posted 311-8 at Beverley Town II, and there was also a fourth half-century of the season for Nick Harrison (59). Michael Cooke top scored for the home side but Liam Carver (4-30) and Stephen Langstaff (3-45) kept the match under control dismissing the hosts for 167.

Bolton Percy remain in second place as they made it four straight wins bringing to an end Bridlington’s six match unbeaten run. Ed Noble top scored with 49 for the visitors as they lost eight wickets, three of them to Will Hall (3-31) whilst chasing down 143 for victory.

Driffield Town II enjoyed an early finish against Malton & Old Malton, set just 90 for victory they raced to victory in under 19 overs. Johnny Anderson (4-19) took four wickets for the second match in a row and Jamie Greason took 3-20 as despite 33 from Shaun Harland the hosts were dismissed cheaply. Owen Goldsworthy top scored with 37 as the visitors won for the first time in four attempts.

Goole Town’s poor run, which has seen the drop from 2nd to 7th, continued as they lost by 50 runs at home to Sewerby. A second century from leading run scorer Simon Webb (121), and 73 from Ashley Bell helped the visitors reach 243-6. The home side got to 193 thanks mainly to Ollie Ounsly (60) and Craig Mendis (37), and despite having now not won in six the promotion race remains so congested they could still end up in the top four.

An outstanding individual performance from David Greenlay helped seal a 157 runs victory for Pickering at home to Osbaldwick. His spell of 5-2 from nine overs resulted in the away side being bowled out for 88, and that followed an innings of 85 as the home side made 245-8, Mark Sepherd (55) also making a significant contribution.

There was cause for celebration at Sewerby as the division’s bottom side won for the first time since the opening day, beating Folkton & Flixton by 17 runs. Lewis Beasley made 50 as despite four wickets from Harry Walmsley (4-53) the hosts reached 153. It was then the bowling of Adrian Long (5-52) and Robin Coates (3-19) that secured the points as the visitors were dismissed for 136.
