Worklink Students who attend an East Riding of Yorkshire Council learning resource centre have been celebrating after being named champions in a regional football tournament.
Day centres from across the East Riding joined several from Hull to take part in the tournament which was organised by Pete Allison, disability football development officer with the East Riding County Football Association.
A total of six teams took part in the event, held at the Goals Soccer Centre, in Hull, including Worklink, whose main base is at Cottingham; Priory View, in Bridlington; and Millers Day Centre, in Beverley.
Representing day centres in Hull were teams from Pennine, Gardens and George Ashton.
Pete said: “The aim of the event was to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for all in an environment in which they can feel safe.
“The event was fully inclusive and participants with a wide range of disabilities were invited to take part.
“While there was a real desire to win from the players, the support shown by all to each other and the sheer enthusiasm on display was a joy to behold.”
The Worklink team were delighted to be crowned champions in the tournament for the second year running.
Councillor Richard Harrap, East Riding of Yorkshire Council portfolio holder for adult and carer services said: “Sporting events like this give everyone, regardless of ability, the chance to come together to share a fun and enjoyable experience.
“I would like to congratulate everyone who not only took part in the tournament itself but also supported the event which was a real success and enjoyed by all.”
