This weekend sees Beverley Town CC thirds welcome the top team in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League, Humbleton, to the Norwood Recreation Ground.
Beverley had a fantastic weekend last week as they were able to come away from Hornsea with a 30 point victory and will be hoping for a repeat of that result.
When asked about last weekends result thirds skipper Alex Nightingale commented;
“It was an excellent weekend for us last week, not only did we manage to take 30 points from the game, teams around us in the division slipped up. To be only 21 points behind the leaders gives us an excellent opportunity this weekend.”
“Despite this there are other teams in the mix and it is turning out to be a hot contest for the promotion places. Six teams are currently in with a chance of promotion meaning Beverley have everything to play for during the next 9 weeks.”
Beverley will once again field a strong side this week despite missing one of their form batsmen James Broekhuizen. However Pete Parnaby makes his comeback from injury which will add another dimension to the sides bowling options.
Nightingale said;
“Pete will bring some consistency in the middle overs, it is something we lacked during our last home game. We lost control of the game during that period hopefully Pete will help us in that regard.”
Finally when asked about the opposition Alex indicated that Humbleton will present Beverley with a real challenge.
He said;
“They are top of the league for a reason, they blew us away in the first game of the season, and we need to make sure we put pressure on them from the first ball.”
“We have an opportunity to perhaps take top spot in the division this week. At times this year we have at times failed in the biggest of games so we need to make sure we take our chance.”
