The Green Party say that the Fracking is a bankrupt industry following the news that Cuadrilla have been granted a licence for fracking rights in the East Riding.
In a statement released following yesterday’s announcement by the government they said;
“Previously the only fingerprint from Cuadrilla has been the rig it leased to Rathlin to conduct its testing at West Newton.”
“This means the UKs leading fracking company will be considering most of the land from the North York Moors down to Hull.”
“All the dangers we have been warning about for years now, remain. A dirty, heavy industry, with the potential to knock out our water supplies, gases affecting land, livestock and people, the profligate use of millions of gallons of water, and massive increases in heavy traffic in rural areas.”
“Fracking is a bankrupt industry. We’re witnessing the death throes of fossil fuels. All the major oil producing countries are past peak oil – so we’re seeing the oil industry getting into horribly dirty and dangerous means of production – like tar sands, like fracking. “
“Cuadrilla write, ‘We have a responsibility to ensure people understand the facts and are not misled by harmful scaremongering.’ Yes, they do. Luckily, they have us to tell them about the planning breaches and technical failures Cuadrilla have managed so far.”
Last week Rathlin Energy confirmed they were withdrawing from their Crawberry Hill site in Walkington, no just days latter who knows what the future will hold.
