Over a hundred of Yorkshire’s finest food producers will be showcasing their products to consumers at the 10th Beverley Food Festival, to be held on Sunday 4th October in Saturday Market Place, between 9.30am and 4.00pm.
As it’s the tenth year for this event, it’s all set to be the best yet, with a wonderful array of produce on offer; from meat, breads, pickles, preserves, fish, seafood, cakes, game, artisan cheeses, poultry, vegetables, fruits, pies, eggs and specialty meats to coffee blends, beers, cider, ice creams and chocolate. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ‘taste and try before you buy’.
The Beverley Food Festival has tripled in size since its humble beginnings in 2006, when 30 stalls of local produce were originally welcomed into the town. It is now the largest free to attend local food festival in the region.
In addition to the stalls, there will be a 250-seated Food Theatre marquee, in which local chefs will be demonstrating their skills and giving ideas on what to cook with some of our local produce. These include David Nowell (Beverley Tickton Grange), James Mackenzie (Pipe and Glass Inn, South Dalton), Tina Cerutti (Cerutti 2, Beverley), Matthew Barker (The Westwood, Beverley), John Robinson (Whites Restaurant), Ben Cox (The Star @ Sancton) Jason Rowe (Rebel’s Smokehouse), and Thierry Condette (TC Patisserie).
Helen Watson, Town Clerk, said: “This will be a special year for us as we celebrate the 10th Beverley Food Festival. We have over 100 stalls offering the best locally produced food and drinks, fantastic musicians, singers and dancers, cookery demonstrations from the area’s top chefs, and children’s entertainers, and it’s all free to attend. There really is something for everyone, so come along and enjoy the celebrations within our beautiful market town.”
Plus, there will be the final of the HEYHA Copper Saucepan Competition, for apprentices Steven Lodge (Village Urban Resort) and James Workman (Light Dragoon at Etton) to show off their skills, and a Cookery challenge featuring Jonathan Parker and Chloe Davies from BBC Radio Humberside as they aim to beat the clock and each other. Both of these will be presented by BBC Radio Humberside Presenter Phil White.
Following a fanfare by Beverley Brass Band, The Mayor of Beverley, Councillor Peter Astell, will officially open the event at 10.00am, outside the Food Theatre marquee. He said:
“The Beverley Food Festival is a great way to support the local economy, the environment, and take advantage of the benefits that seasonal local food brings. The event grows year on year and offers a great local food experience and family day out in our beautiful medieval market town.”
There will also be a charity stalls in aid of the Mayoral charities Beverley Community Lift and the Cherry Tree Stroke Club.
Additional entertainment is provided by the Beverley Garland Dancers, Beverley Brass Band and Professor Fiddlesticks with his circus skills workshops for children, making it a great day out for all the family.
