East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Sports, Play and Arts Service recently organised a Commonwealth Games legacy festival for young disabled people who live in the area.
The event was held at Longcroft School , Beverley, with around 30 young disabled people and their siblings attending.
Adam Swann, community sport coach, said :
“The day was fantastic, and parents and carers attended the event as well, which made for a great atmosphere. I have received some lovely feedback from parents, carers and participants regarding the event and would like to thank everyone for making this year’s Commonwealth Games legacy event such a great success. It was a fantastic way to finish the summer of 2015.”
At the event the young disabled participants and siblings took part in various different sports, such as archery, cricket, football and athletics. The event was supported by Beverley Tesco’s store and their community liaison officer David Ryley; the store supplied refreshments and snacks for all the participants on the day.
Adam Swann added:
“Every participant who attended the event got fully involved and tried their hardest at all the different sports. At the end of the event, everyone received a certificate and medal, with special trophies and awards being presented for young disabled participants whose achievements stood out on the day.”
