Love, Lust And Political Intrigue Come To Beverley

Award-winning novelist, historian and biographer Piers Paul Read will be at the East Riding Theatre in Beverley on Saturday 10 October as part of the Beverley Literature festival, with an exclusive preview of his latest book, ‘Scarpia’.

A treat for fans of historical fiction, ‘Scarpia’ is a darkly intriguing novel based on Puccini’s opera, ‘Tosca’. It’s a powerful story of love, lust and political intrigue set in Rome in the late eighteenth century.

Piers Paul Read is well known for his book ‘Alive : the Story of the Andes Survivors’, which documented the story of the 1972 crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, and was made into a film in 1993. He was educated at Gilling Castle and Ampleforth Abbey in North Yorkshire, before attending St John’s College, Cambridge.

He will be at the East Riding Theatre at 5pm on Saturday 10 October. Tickets for this event are available from www.bevlit.org, together with full details of all events in the Beverley Literature Festival 2015.
