Beverley ARLC To Set Up 'A' Team To Help Retain Fringe Players

Beverley ARLC have been busy making plans for the 2016 season in the Yorkshire League at their most-recent monthly meeting.

Finishing fifth in their debut year was seen as satisfactory progress but the club believes it could have been better with greater strength in depth. To that end the club will be launching an ‘A’ team and have appointed former player Darren Whitehead as the ‘A’ team coach.

It is hoped the new second string side will attract back those players who may drifted away due to lack of first-team opportunities. It is also hoped that the side will attract those that are new to the sport and also provide a link between the juniors and the open age.

A decision will not be taken as to what league the ‘A’ team will compete in until nearer the start of the season as it will be dependent on strength and numbers. The choice would appear to be more informal merit leagues, which would require committing to only a small amount of fixtures or possibly Yorkshire Division Four.

The management of the Yorkshire League have recognized that travelling is an issue with regard to fixture fulfillment with some clubs and hinted at East/West splits of the lower divisions.

Meanwhile head coach Pat Howdle will shortly announce a date for the start pre-season training which will be before Christmas as many players have shown a keenness to return to training sooner rather than later.

He will also shortly announce the name an assistant coach who has had previous connections with the town and should provide much-needed input.
