People in Beverley do care about Syrian refugees and the OneLove Charity Event at Armstrongs Social Club on Saturday 7th November will show that by raising funds to help them.
The OneLove event has been conceived and organised by local businessman Tom Guthrie and will see a number of well known local musicians of a mixed genre take to the stage and entertain an already sold out event.
Speaking to HU17.net Tom said;
“I have been really taken aback by the level of support I’ve received for this event. It shows people in Beverley want to come together and do some good for people who are far less privileged.”
“The whole philosophy behind OneLove is a coming together of people regardless of their age, sex, race, creed or religion who just want to make a contribution and do something positive for the good of humanity.”
Tom commented “It’s so easy to become complacent because we are so fortunate to live in Beverley a little bubble of affluence and privilege”.
“Living in one of the most beautiful parts of the country it is easy to forget that the people in Syria, including 2 million children have been displaced and left without homes due to the war.”
“Events like this help raise money to support others less privileged and hopefully it conveys to them a sense that people do actually care.”
The theme of the night is Reggae something Mr. Guthrie said “Encompasses the spirit of bringing people together regardless of ethnicity, colour or religion. There will also be a sound system that promises to be a magical experience for everyone.”
While tickets are sold out for the event, Tom says people can still get involved and help contribute by making donations via the Just Giving page that has been set up for the event.
He added;
“Unicef the chosen children’s charity for the event has an agreement with the U.K. authorities that for every pound raised for the Syrian children’s fund the Government will match pound for pound, so matter how small a donation people can afford to make it’s spending power will be doubled.”
Mr. Guthrie is hopeful that the final figure that they raise will be in the thousands of pounds all of which will be donated to this very worthwhile cause.
