Residents in the East Riding who have signed up for the latest round of collective energy supply switching are again being offered big savings on their fuel bills.
The YORSwitch scheme is run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of the national iChoosr Big Community Switch.
It invites residents to register – for free and with no commitment – to take part in a collective auction in which energy companies submit tariff offers and the best tariff is then offered to the people who have registered.
Householders are under no obligation to make the switch to the auction-winning supplier’s tariff offer but nearly 41,000 people have already done so via the council’s YORSwitch scheme in previous auctions – saving a combined total of nearly £1.5million so far.
The latest auction has just been held and residents who registered have again been given access to exclusive tariffs which are better than any available on the open market*.
The winning tariff means a total of 99 per cent of the registrants will save money if they go ahead and switch, with the average saving calculated at £230* a year.
Almost 3,300 households registered for the latest auction through YORSwitch and this was combined with similar initiatives by 70 other local authorities around the UK to create a collective of more than 19,000 households.
Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for asset management, housing and environment at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already taken part in YORSwitch to do so. There is no commitment to switch but for the vast majority of those who do so there have been substantial savings.
“The power of collective switching and this latest tariff offer means those 3,300 households across the East Riding will be able to fix their energy prices and have a warmer winter ahead of them.
“It also means money is going back into the pockets of our residents and this extra money may then be spent with local businesses, supporting the local East Riding economy.”
Offer letters or e-mails are currently being sent to registered residents, informing them of how much they could be saving against their current deal. For anyone deciding to switch, the new provider takes care of the whole process.
The registration period has also been extended to Tuesday, 24 November so even more residents can take up the opportunity to save on their energy bills. To register, visit www.eastriding.gov.uk/YORSwitch and complete the form by Tuesday, 24 November.
