In a one sided game in terrible conditions Beverley wrapped matters up in 43 minutes.
Beverley received the ball from kick off and was immediately on the attack. With strong rucking and running in very poor conditions Rotherham seemed to have very little answer right from the start.
The ball was hit up from a number of rucks. Beverley sticking to the game plan of keeping it very tight in the rain and the wind. Beverley marched to the Rotherham line and Alfie Hart Fisher crossed for the first try. This was converted by Jockey Holmes (7/0).
Almost straight from the restart the ball was spun wide twice in quick succession both tries taken superbly by Sam Fussey and both converted (21/0)
The little ball that Rotherham did have was mostly wasted and it seemed that at times their talented number ten would have to score by himself if Rotherham were going to cross Beverley’s whitewash. Unfortunately when you are on your own it is easy to defend against but the Rotherham side did endeavour to make it a contest
Again good forward drives by Lewis Szrama and Will Cook left space on the left flank. Strong running by Harrison Mayou and a fine offload, especially in the conditions, allowed Jake Marin to run in at the corner from the Rotherham 22m line. This one went unconverted (26/0)
Having been kicked the ball Luke Hazell ran the ball back and around the halfway line entered traffic. Ten meters later he was in the clear with a chasing pack of Rotherham players. He had a clear run in under the posts for the 5th try of the half. This one was converted. (33/0)
The half was drawing to an end when Sam Fussey was again put into space. Again he was unstoppable and powered in for his third try of the game Jockey Holmes, on fine form for the conditions, slotted the conversion. (40/0)
The halftime whistle went and the players huddled together in the wind and the rain. Whilst they were huddling so were the respective coaches and the ref. Under the circumstances it was agreed that when (or if) either side reached 50 points the game would be called in accordance with the cup rules.
Beverley kicked off and was soon deep in Rotherham territory with the wind now to their backs. The forwards soon turned over the ball and it was spun along the line. This time Luke Hazell was the grateful recipient and he went in unopposed under the posts. The conversion was good. (47/0)
The last act of the game came in the 43rd minute. Fine forward and backs combinations eventually saw the ball spun left and Sam Fussey powered over for his fourth try of the game. This taking him to the dizzy heights of top try scorer for the season so far!
The whistle went as agreed and Beverley was happy to have job done and are now into the quarterfinal. Hopefully a home tie will be their reward.
