Thousands Of Children Could Go Without This Christmas Says Local Charity

Children across our region could be waking up on Christmas morning with no gift to open as applications to the Mission Christmas appeal reach record highs.

Organisers of the annual appeal fear they may not be able to meet the soaring demands after they received 16,000 applications on behalf of vulnerable deprived children this year in our region.

Cash for Kids the charity behind the appeal say that more gifts are needed before the this coming Friday’s deadline.

Charlotte Pickering, Cash for Kids charity manager, said:

“The worst case scenario is that we get Christmas Eve with children still needing their gifts, we have never been in this situation before.”

“We can’t leave for Christmas knowing there’s children’s applications in our folders that will not get fulfilled.”

Charlotte says that there one in three children living in poverty in our region with even more struggling families who view Christmas presents as luxury items.

New and unwrapped gifts can be handed in at drop-off points locally here in Beverley. Places accepting gifts on behalf of the charity are;

T C Patisserie, Santander , Halifax,Thomas Cook, Tesco, M&S, Co-Operative Travel, Right Car, TIR Training, The Feguson Fawsitt Arms or Bishop Burton College.

Cash for Kids is appealing for presents suitable for babies right up to 18 year olds but has a particular need for gifts for children aged nine to 18 such as books, watches, board games, hats, scarves and toiletry sets.

Last year the charity handed out more than £700,000 worth of gifts that were donated by the public meaning that 15,000 needy children had a Christmas to remember.
