Chairman of ERYC Peter Turner’s Christmas Message

Chairman of ERYC Peter Turner's Christmas Message

Christmas is a time when we can reflect on all that has happened in 2015, the good times and the bad and contemplate our hopes and aspirations for the new year.

Many of us will have different views on what Christmas brings. For most people, it remains a very special time, one that reminds us of the bonds that are so important, but we must remember, not everyone will get the chance to be with their loved ones over the festive period.

When many people take well earned breaks, the emergency services do not stop. Let’s spare a thought for the invaluable service the fire, police, ambulance personnel, doctors, nurses, social workers, clergy, council workers and many others continue to provide over the festive season.

We should also think about and support the families living within our community for whom Christmas will be a sad and lonely time, particularly for those who have suffered bereavement over the past year, and I would encourage people to rally around and provide help and support where needed.

Christmas is traditionally a time when friends and families, young and old alike, unite to celebrate this special time of the year. I would ask all of us to remember and look out for our elderly neighbours, friends and family who may be feeling lonely and give them your support and friendship.

On behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Councillor Peter Turner
Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council
