Lucky Winners Presented With Beverley Food Festival Prizes

The three lucky winners of this year’s Beverley Food Festival competitions have been presented with their prizes by Mayor of Beverley Cllr Peter Astell.

Neil Reade collected a prize hamper containing local food on behalf of his wife Sarah, who correctly guessed the weight of the tenth Beverley Food Festival celebration cake. The cake, which weighed 38kg, was supplied by Ginger Kitten Cupcakes and it was made to celebrate the tenth Beverley Food Festival.

Speaking about Beverley Food Festival, Neil said:

“This year was the second time we have visited the event. When we first moved to Beverley, the Food Festival was one of the first things that we did as a family. Our children love food and they loved the festival as they can taste and try things that they’ve never had before. I think it’s great that the stallholders allow you to try samples of their produce, without any pressure to buy. The Beverley Food Festival is well organized and there’s such a lot to see and do. It’s a fantastic event and we really enjoyed it.”

Dave Welburn won the Beverley Food Festival evaluation form prize draw and he was presented with a hamper and gift vouchers from Lakeland Kitchenware. Commenting on the Food Festival, Dave said: “The event has grown over the past 10 years and it’s become really well known across Yorkshire. People travel from far and wide to come to the Beverley Food Festival, for the great selection of food and interesting things to taste such as venison and ostrich. I especially like the fact that it’s free to attend, and that it’s not just for the elite few. We are so lucky to have great festivals like this in Beverley.”

Alessandro Anastasi was selected as the winner of the Beverley Food Festival photography competition and he took home a local food hamper. He said:

“As a chef, I really like to visit the Beverley Food Festival, as I can source lovely local, seasonal ingredients. So I spend a lot of time at the event. This also gives me a good opportunity to take photographs of the festival day. I’m really pleased to have my photograph chosen as the winning picture, and look forward to taking more pictures at next year’s event.”
