Beverley Cornerstone Receive Donation From Greggs The Bakers

Beverley Cornerstone a local Christian Charity that helps adults with learning disabilities has received a £1000 donation from Greggs the Bakers.

As a group Beverley Cornerstone host activity evenings each month at Millers Day Centre in Beverley. People who attend come from Beverley, Hull, Bridlington and the surrounding villages.

Beverley Cornerstone Volunteer Barrie Dennison said;

“We are very grateful to Greggs the Bakers for this donation. The money they have given us will be used towards a large-group weekend trip to Scarborough.”

Through the use of music, drama and stories people who attend Beverley Cornerstone are encouraged to take part using understandable relevant language.

Some of the members who attend have very complex disabilities, and the group provides a vital service for their general well being.

Area manager Claire Williams and Kerry Hill, a branch manager at Greggs the Bakers in Hull visited the Beverley Cornerstone to hand over the cash.

Speaking about the donation and how it came about Claire said;

“As a company, we have something called the Greggs Foundation. In all our stores both locally and nationally we collect donations. Staff also hold events like dress up days to raise money.”

“Beverley Cornerstone asked for £800 to help fund their trip, but the panel felt they did such an amazing job they donated £1000.”

“Coming here today is important for us as we can see what a great job they do first hand.”

Claire hopes that their first grant here in Beverley will help highlight what they are trying to do and get more organisations to come forward.

“It is the first time we have made a donation in Beverley, and we hope that more good local causes, charities, sports clubs will now come forward and apply.”

The Greggs Foundation is the corporate charity of Greggs plc and the company say they have always been a charitable company.

Before the Foundation was established as a grant-making trust, Greggs had established a strong reputation in the community.
