Launch Of New Drop-in Base For Foster Carers

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s fostering service is launching a new drop-in facility, where potential foster carers can go for information.

The new facility will open at the Carers’ Centre at 18 Wednesday Market, Beverley (near Boyes) on Monday 18 January.

People with an interest in fostering will be able to pop in for a chat with a member of the fostering team, ask questions, pick up information or an application pack.

The fostering team will be available at the centre on Mondays and Fridays from 10am to 12 noon, and on Wednesdays from 1 to 3pm.

Prospective foster carers should ideally be over 25, they can be single, married or co-habiting. People with or without families, heterosexual, lesbian or gay can be foster carers.

Dave Glenville, the council’s fostering team leader, said: “We are particularly looking for people who care about children and young people who need help, care and support at difficult times in their lives.

“The new drop-in centre will provide an opportunity for people who may be interested in becoming foster carers to discuss it in a friendly and informal setting where they can get the information they need.

“Foster carers and their families are exceptional people. If you have the desire to help and give the time, energy and commitment, please come along and find out how you can become involved in the much-needed and highly worthwhile role as foster carer for East Riding children.”

A ‘find out about fostering’ event will also be held on Wednesday 20 January at Tickton Grange Hotel, near Beverley, at 6pm.

Anyone interested in find out more can contact the fostering team on (01482) 396673, email fostering@eastriding.gov.uk or go along to one of the drop-in sessions at the centre at 18 Wednesday Market, Beverley HU17 0DJ.
