Experience One Day Of Fighting On The Western Front

Treasure House

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is delivering a new adult learning course called One Day’s Fighting on the Western Front.

This follows on from the popular Life in the First World War Trenches course that was delivered during 2015.

The new course is designed for people to get an insight into the experience of British troops during the First World War by looking at one day’s fighting on the Western Front: 26 September 1917. The course is suitable for those with little or no prior knowledge of the subject.

The five-hour course will trace the career of Lieutenant Captain TE Borrill of 2/8 Sherwood Foresters, from his early life in Hull to his death on the Western Front during the Third Battle of Ypres. This is a relative of the tutor, Dave Borrill (BA Hons, MSc M. Phil.).

David is a history graduate with extensive experience of teaching in the life-long learning sector. He has taught courses on First World War army records at various colleges in the region.

This course costs £27.50 and all are welcome to attend. There are no entry requirements, except you must be aged 19 or over. The course is aimed at anyone with an interest in the First World War.

The course will run on Saturday, 30 January, from 10am-3.30pm, at the Treasure House, in Beverley.

Places are strictly limited and registration is essential. Refreshments are provided, but learners will need to bring their own lunch.
