Town Left Frustrated As Missed Chances Prove Costly

Beverley Town Academy traveled to Andrew Marvel School to face top of the table AFC Orchard with a number of enforced changes to the winning team from the previous week.

With the pitch grass covering a lot longer than optimum and damp underfoot ground, conditions were not ideal for football.

Beverley started well but were unable to turn their pressure into chances. A defensive mishap led to the offside trap being beaten and the sharp striker taking advantage leaving the keeper no chance of making a save.

Goalkeeper Spencer was again given no chance following a tactical nudge on the centre half leaving the striker through on goal. He was able to square the ball for the ball to be put into the gaping goal.

Beverley managed to get a foothold in the game when sustained pressure saw Danny Dawes felled in the penalty area. Mike Martin snatched the ball and decisively scored the resulting penalty taking the score at half time to 2-1.

The second half saw Beverley apply further pressure to the home side in search of the equaliser.

Martin came very close to the equaliser rounding the keeper but could only hit the side netting.

Chances were not easy to come by but Adam Gibson was able to hit the crossbar from a long range effort.

With Beverley pushing more and more men forward Orchard were able to counter and had chances to put the game out of sight, hitting the post from point blank.

A string of corners could not be converted at the end of the game leaving Town frustrated but a number of positives to be taken out of the game with the attitude of players after going behind on a difficult pitch of particular note.

Final Score: AFC Orchard 2 Beverley Town Academy 1
