Beverley Town Reserves moved to within three points of league leaders Bridlington Town as they ground out a 2-1 win against North Cave in the East Riding County League.
Town made hard work of a game, that on paper looked a formality against the side that reside at the foot of the table however they were comfortably in control at the break.
Town were as expected on top early as Olly Baldwin looked a threat as he tested the North Cave keeper.
Baldwin was unlucky when he saw his shot come back off the bar and was thwarted again by the post with a header.
After some great inter play round the box involving several players, the ball was put in the path of skipper Tom Davies who finished well to give Town the lead.
That advantage was quickly doubled when Ben Fletcher squared to Davies who saw his shot superbly saved by Cave’s keeper but Baldwin was on to mop up and score.
In the second half, Town struggled to get going but had further chances to score through Adam Gibson and Davies.
Cave scored with 20 minutes left but Town were able to see out the game.
This Saturday the Beverley Town Reserves visit Holme Rovers in an East Riding County League game.
