Big Adoption Day 16 March 2016

Big Adoption Day 16 March 2016

Anyone who is considering adopting a child, or would like more information about adoption, is invited to a drop-in event in Beverley.

The event will be held on Wednesday 16 March 2016, which is being marked across the country as Big Adoption Day.

Adoption staff from East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be on hand at the drop-in event at the Carers’ Centre at 18 Wednesday Market from 10am to 2pm. Anyone interested in finding out more about adoption is welcome to call in for a chat with a member of the team.

They are particularly looking for single people and couples who are willing to consider adoption for children aged four-plus, and especially siblings and children with additional needs.

Ian Wilson, adoption manager, said:

“There are no blanket bans in adoption, so please don’t think we’ll turn you down because you are over 40, single or don’t own your own home. What we really need are people who can help a child thrive in their new family and help them meet their full potential.”

Councillor Julie Abraham, portfolio holder for children, young people and education, said:

“Big Adoption Day is important in reminding people about the backgrounds of the children waiting for adoption and the difference adoption can make to a child’s life. We know from existing adoptive families that it can be challenging, but the rewards are huge. This is a chance to transform a child’s life forever.”

For more information call (01482) 396469 or call in at the drop-in event on Wednesday 16 March.
