Beverley Grammar School Pupils Head To Costa Rica

In 2017, eight Beverley Grammar School pupils will be heading to Costa Rica on a World Challenge Expedition.

This new program, led by Mr Bibbington in conjunction with World Challenge, an international expedition company, aims to give life-changing experiences to pupils in the Sixth Form, allowing them to broaden their horizons whilst learning essential leadership and life skills.

World Challenge expeditions are designed to develop important life skills, helping students to:

• Hone teamwork and leadership skills
• Gain confidence and self-esteem
• Become more globally aware
• Enhance employment prospects

Students will undertake a two year lead-up phase which has already begun. During this phase, students will fundraise for their expedition and train for their adventure.

The programme culminates in the team flying off on an expedition and completing several physically challenging treks and a community project.

This year this involves hiking through the Costa Rican Cloud Forest and aiding a local community in conservation works of rescuing sea turtles from harmful pollutants. Supported by the programme leaders, Mr Bibbington and Miss Fraser, students will organise their own transport, arrange meals and accommodation, manage their budget and converse with the local population.

Head of DT Mr Bibbington said;

“This is a once in a lifetime experience. Having carried out World Challenge experiences previously, I can guarantee the wealth of experiences the students will take from this programme.”

  1. I went to Costa Rica with world challenge with my school, even though that was almost 10 years ago I still think about it often, so much fun! Would definitely recommend spending some time in Nicaragua and a few days in Torteguero for turtle conservation! Prepare yourselves to eat rice and beans with every meal, the spiders and the Americans in the tourist bits!!
