Beverley Georgian Quarter to Stage Wacky Bike Race

Traders in the Georgian Quarter are staging a Wacky Bike Race on the eve of the Tour de Yorkshire as they look to raise cash for the official charity partner the RNLI.

Nathan Bush, the Chairman of the Beverley Georgian Quarter talking about their plans said;

“What we are asking for is that fellow traders to get involved by entering with a bike that is themed to the Tour de Yorkshire or themed like their own business.”

“It is an event to help promote the Georgian Quarter and the build friendships and solidarity between the traders in this part of the town.”

Taking place on Thursday 28 April from 6PM Mr. Bush hopes people will come out along the route and support the Wacky Bike Race, he said;

“There will be a wide range of Wacky Bikes on show. We will have people riding children’s bikes, super heroes, houses, choppers and old fashioned bikes with the riders in fancy dress. It is all a bit of fun.”

Riders will pass through North Bar and turn right. They will follow Wylies Road and then turn right at the roundabout going past Sleepers. Then they will go past the bus station before heading back to North Bar.

Mr. Bush, however, would not commit to rumours that the local Super Hero, Tea Man will indeed make an appearance, he said;

“I cannot say too much at this time, though I am hoping to reach out and that Tea Man will be coming on the Thursday.”

“I need to put that call out to him. I cannot confirm or deny he can ride the bike as he may be busy making tea somewhere else.”

“It will be good if we can get some kids onside and hopefully the council will get behind the idea and help build momentum over coming days as we look to raise money for charity.”
