Lions Clubs Raise Money To Support The Police Youth Engagement Initiative

Eleven Lions Clubs across the East Yorkshire have raised £14,920 to support “great work of Lifestyle” groups since 2008 to help them continue to make a difference in communities across Humberside.

At a presentation on Thursday 26 May, Eileen Smith, President of the Holderness Lions Club and representative from other Lions Clubs in the county handed over this year’s donation of £3050 to Deputy Chief Constable Gary Forsyth.

Eileen Smith said: “The moto of the Lions is helping people less fortunate than ourselves, which is something that many Lifestyle groups do when the help the elderly, disabled and the wider community. Seeing kids giving up so much of their time during the summer holiday is very inspiring and makes me think they’ll be great Lions in the future. With this in mind we are pleased to support their great work of Lifestyle by fundraising and providing extra funds to assist young people in doing their initiatives.”

Sergeant Liam Clorley from Humberside Police Community Safety said: “It is great that the Lions Clubs across East Yorkshire have raised so much to help support the on-going success of Lifestyle. Their commitment to making a difference is inspiring. I hope the young people taking part in lifestyle can be equally enthusiastic as they deliver great projects in their neighbourhoods.”

What is Lifestyle?

Lifestyle is a scheme organised and run by Humberside Police that encourages thousands of 10-18 year olds to register as groups and undertake projects that benefit their local area, with the most innovative and successful rewarded with a host of prizes.

The Lifestyle project aims to increase the amount of positive contact between Humberside Police and young people, offering a refreshing and challenging alternative to summer boredom, which will benefit the youngsters and their communities.

The young people involved work together developing essential life-skills, gain in confidence and self-esteem, whilst making a difference in their neighbourhood with a host of amazing projects.

Lifestyle 2016 is only possible through commercial sponsorship and Humberside Police would like to thank all these commercial partners including: BP, Houltons, ARCO, Andrew MARR, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Reckitt Benckiser, Patrick & Helena Frost Foundation, KCom, Aunt Bessies, BAE, NHS Clinical Trust, East Riding Yorkshire Council, The National Grid, Cleveland Cars, Bridgetown Systems and JayJay Media.
