Beverley fundraiser, Becca Foster, has teamed up with Amie Ashford of ‘Pilates and Fitness by Amie’ and Filmore & Union, to hold a very special event in aid of the international development charity, Progressio.
From 10.30am-12pm at the St Mary’s Parish Hall in Beverley, attendees will join instructor Amie for a 45 minute Pilates’ masterclass that will take the participants through a series of core strength and flexibility exercises.
Pilates boasts a number of benefits including; improved posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieved stress and tension – making it a perfect option for a Saturday morning to wind down after a busy week!
After the Pilates session, the relaxed attendees will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win prizes donated by local businesses, including Kavanagh’s Tea Rooms, Parkway Cinema and TWS Wellness – whilst enjoying a complimentary smoothie or juice from Filmore & Union, Beverley’s hotly tipped new opening.
Becca, 21, explained her inspiration behind the fundraiser;
“I was recently accepted onto the government scheme, the International Citizen Service (ICS) to work for the charity Progressio in Malawi for 12 weeks on a grass-roots project focused on HIV and Aids, and community participation. As part of my commitment to the programme, I am tasked with raising £800 for Progressio, so when looking at fundraising options it seemed only natural that I combined my interest in health and fitness with love of Filmore & Union’s drinks”.
The ICS initiative is open to all 18-25 year olds, and whilst the scheme is far from a holiday – it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for young people to make a tangible difference in the world. Becca said;
“I’d really encourage anyone my age to seriously consider volunteering with ICS, it’s one of the most accessible options out there and you’re given the chance to work on sustainable projects in some of the world’s poorest countries”.
