Beverley Barracudas Make A Big Splash At New £25m Pool

Youngsters from a Beverley swimming club made a big splash at a gala to open the East Riding’s newest swimming pool complex.

Beverley Barracudas beat five other local teams to collect the winner’s shield in the Bam Construction Invitation Gala at the brand new £25m East Riding Leisure centre in Bridlington.

Club chairman Ian Weldon said: “It’s great when all the hard work and training put in by the swimmers and coaches pays off.

“All the swimmers did well on the day and it was a great team effort. Toby Clausen and Ryan Powers did really well. They are in the under 10s age group but they swam in the under 12s because we were short of boys for that age group.”

The other teams in the gala were Pocklington A and B, Bridlington, New Earswick and Driffield.

Barracudas, who train at Beverley Leisure Centre on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday evenings were promoted to the Ridings Premier Division two years ago.

The club currently has a waiting list for new members but needs more under 10s boys to apply to join.
