Paul Midgley reports crack sprinters Line Of Reason and Another Wise Kid in prime form ahead of the feature race of the Laurent-Perrier Evening of the Horse at Beverley.
The North Yorkshire trainer fires a dual assault at the £14,000 British Stallion Studs Laurent-Perrier Evening EBF Conditions Stakes (7.40), which has attracted an eyecatching seven-runner field.
Line Of Reason must give away weight to all six of his rivals, but Midgley is expectant of a big run after last season’s Beverley Bullet runner-up finished a staying-on fourth in the Achilles Stakes at Haydock last month.
The Westow handler said: “The old boy has not done a great deal wrong all year, in truth.
“He ran OK at Haydock, but half an hour before the race they had a lot of rain and that didn’t suit him.
“He’s really suited by Beverley, though, and was only beaten a neck in the Bullet by Maarek, who is a very good horse.
“He’s been a great horse for us and hopefully he’ll have his day again sooner rather than later.”
Midgley feels stablemate Another Wise Kid is also coming to hand nicely as he has his first start since finishing sixth in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster on April 2.
The trainer said: “He’s had one or two niggly little problems – nothing serious – but he’s ready to go again and is in grand form.
“This is a good starting point and hopefully he’ll be there to pick up the pieces if Line Of Reason under-performs.
“He’s been a pleasure to train and always wears his heart on his sleeve.
“He’s one of my favourites in the yard.”
Line Of Reason and Another Wise Kid will line up against last year’s winner Pipers Note, while Red Pike – part-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson – is also in contention for the coveted five-furlong dash.
Barracuda Boy, Canny Kool and Foxy Forever complete the septet.
Beverley’s first evening meeting of the season is due to begin at 6.40pm, with the official going on Monday afternoon described as good, good to firm in places.
Featuring live stunt shows from Atkinson Action Horses, amongst other spectacular events, the Laurent-Perrier Evening of the Horse is one of the keynote fixtures of the summer at the picturesque East Yorkshire circuit.
