Mill Lane United Wizards U14s representing the East Riding won the regional Futsal finals competition held in Leeds to progress to the national finals which will be in Birmingham later this month.
Facing teams from all around the north East of England, Mill Lane started well in their first game against a team from Durham but paid the price for missing numerous opportunities conceding a last minute goal to lose 1:0
However, far from being disheartened, they continued to play some fast-paced football beating a team from Selby in their next game with a clinical finish from Joe Douglas. Next up was a team from Barnsley but with three quick goals from Max Wright, Harry Sadler and Douglas, Mill Lane made it two wins on the spin.
Games were coming thick and fast and with goals from Danny Wilson and Wright against a team from the Newcastle area giving Mill Lane, a comfortable 2:0 win. There was a real belief that they could qualify despite the early loss.
A tight game against a team from Doncaster followed with another 1:0 win (Douglas) making it four wins on the bounce and with their nearest rivals losing their final game, Mill Lane knew a draw in their final game would be enough to qualify.
The Wizards started the game strongly and after some great play, Douglas made it 1:0. A second soon followed as some great footwork from Douglas, and a tight finish made it two before a rare goal from the impressive Adam Prince in defence ensured Mill Lane eventually won 3.2 and will qualify for the nationals at Birmingham later this month.
Well done to all the team, including some great performances from Zac Wise and George Addison in defence and Ben Gillyon in goal.
