This was another pleasing win for the blue and golds as they continue to close in on the Yorkshire Premier League play-offs.
They had to play 45 minutes of the game down to 12 men following the slightly harsh 35th minute dismissal of Steve Connolly for use of the knees. The visitors from the west of Hull were a spirited outfit who gave the ball plenty of air and made Beverley work very hard for their points.
The hosts had the scoreboard rolling very early. A Jack Howdle break saw him have the ball stolen from his grasp in a two man tackle. The penalty and resulting set saw a move end with Glen Anfield’s neat reverse pass sending Jack Humphries over for Josh Poskitt to convert.
In an attack for the visitors a kick on the last went into the hands of Alex Calvert who charged up-field only for his inside pass to his supports go to ground. Moments later some more Beverley pressure ended with Tom Radley forcing his way over despite the best efforts of a cluster of defenders. Poskitt converted.
There was some more Norland pressure which forced a line drop-out. The drop-out managed to find touch and handed the initiative back to the home side. Possession from the scrum saw Lewis Poskitt dummy and side step his way to a try which was again converted.
There was some more Norland pressure before Connolly’s sending off which sparked a fracas in an a game otherwise played in a good spirit.
Then as full back Billy Riby took a kick as Norland were looking dangerous and cleared his line with interest the lead was increased. The ball was shipped swiftly to the left as Alex Calvert slipped a ball to Josh Poskitt who danced his way through several defenders to score wide out. The extras were not added and Beverley were 22-0 up at the break.
Beverley went in for the kill early in the second half. Another jinking run by Lewis Poskitt looked to have a try written all over it only for him to be denied by a dubious looking tackle. Jack Humphries then prized open the visiting defence with neat footwork only for his pass to Tom Radley to be ruled forward.
Some repeat sets aided by penalties saw some sustained pressure from Norland. They got their rewards when James Buttery dived over in the corner, The try could not be converted. Any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when quick hands to the right saw Jack Humphries finish off a move in the corner for his second try.
Finally Man of the match Lewis Poskitt rounded off the scoring with another elusive run which sent his brother Josh over wide out for his second try and eighteenth of the campaign so far. The extra were added.
There are no scheduled games this Saturday due to the Challenge Cup Final when of course coach Scott Taylor will be in action for Hull FC.
The next game will be on September 3rd at the Leisure Centre when Beverley will take on league leaders Sharlston Rovers in what promises to be the biggest game of the season.
