BEVERLEY RACES : Beverley Braced For Salva Service

Salvatore Fury flies the flag for Scotland at Beverley on Wednesday (September 14) as the progressive sprinter attempts to secure a third win on the bounce.

Trained in South Lanarkshire by Keith Dalgleish and owned by Scottish syndicate Prestige Racing Thoroughbreds, the six-year-old gelding arrives in East Yorkshire on top of his game.

Victories at Catterick and, most recently, at Hamilton have seen Salvatore Fury rise through the ratings ahead of division one of the @totepoolracing Win Tickets On Twitter Handicap (4.05) over five furlongs.

Connections of the son of Strategic Prince are now optimistic of another big show at Beverley’s penultimate meeting of the season.

Billy Burke, racing and bloodstock manager for Prestige Racing, said: “Hopefully he’ll get a good, strong pace at Beverley as that’s the key to him.

“Graham Gibbons rode two great races on him the last twice, but Graham Lee also knows him very well and he’s on board at Beverley.

“The horse is in super form and could still be reasonably handicapped.

“He’s done well at Beverley two times in the past – he perhaps should have won both times, too – so that course experience will hopefully come in very handy.

“If it continues to dry out down at Beverley that will also be spot-on.

“There are a lot of positives and we are quietly hopeful of a good run.”

It could be a big week for Prestige Racing as York winner Dark Defender, a stablemate of Salvatore Fury, is set to run at Ayr’s William Hill Gold Cup Festival.

Burke added:

“He’s not a hope of getting in the Ayr Gold Cup, so we’re probably thinking either the Bronze Cup on Friday or a five-furlong handicap on the same day.

“The jockey (Jim Crowley) made a big difference on him at York, but it was a really good effort.

“He’s the sort of horse that will pop up and win a nice race every now again, and because he’s a three-year-old colt we also have the option of gelding him next season.”

Beverley’s eight-race card is due to start at 1.50pm – the highlight being the £10,000 totepool Live Info Download The App Handicap over a mile and a half.
