The Viewfinder Photographic Society’s (VPS) annual photography exhibition in Skidby gets underway once again at the end of September and this year will pay tribute to one of its founding members by introducing a special award.
Beverley resident, Peter Smith, who was instrumental in setting up the club and became its first secretary, lost his battle with cancer in December 2015.
“It seems only fitting that we recognise Peter’s enormous contribution in helping to create what has become such a friendly, thriving club” said David Marshall, VPS Chairman. “As well as a gifted photographer, Peter was a school teacher and passionate about helping others learn and improve and this is why the club has been such a success. Creating the Peter Smith Award is our way of recognising his legacy.”
This year, the Peter Smith Award will be for the best monochrome image as voted for by everyone that attends over the weekend.
The free exhibition is now a regular fixture in the calendar and a showcase of members’ recent images. Visitors will have the chance to vote for their favourite photographs when doors open to the public at 10.00am on Friday, 30th September 2016 at Skidby Village Hall in East Yorkshire.
Each year, the ever-popular exhibition attracts visitors who like to come and browse the pictures, vote for their favourite images and sometimes buy a gift from one of the stalls selling cards and prints.
Once again, the Society has also been invited to take the exhibition to the East Riding Community Hospital in Beverley for patients and visitors to enjoy, so anyone that can’t see the exhibition in Skidby will have another opportunity later in the year.
The club, which has a waiting list, provides a place for members to learn more about their photography by being with others who share their passion.
