Beverley Lions Appeal For Volunteers To Marshall On Bonfire Night

Beverley Lions are appealing to members of public to volunteer and help them marshal their Bonfire Night celebrations.

Les Ford, from the Beverley Westwood Lions said;

“This year’s Bonfire on the Westwood will go ahead as normal on Saturday the 5 November 2016.”

“We are appealing for people to come forward and act as marshals on the night. Volunteers need to be over 18 years old.”

“Keeping with tradition the Bonfire will be lit by the Mayor of Beverley Councillor Robert Begnett & the President of Beverley Westwood Lions PDG Lion Ian Sagar.”

“The bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm and the Firework Display will commence at 7.45pm. There will be lots of entertainment with the usual fairground rides and fast food stalls for all to enjoy.”

“The Westwood Lions respectfully ask that the public do not bring their own fireworks or sparklers to the bonfire site for safety reasons.”

“If the wires are left behind and not picked up they can cause serious damage to the livestock that still roam the pasture freely.”

“The public are asked to use the town centre car parks on Grayburn Lane, School Lane behind the Fire Station, Lord Roberts Road behind the East Riding Theatre or the town centre.”

“No Parking on the Westwood on the roads either side of the bonfire site will be permitted on the night and certain road closures will be in place for public safety.”

A popular night that sees thousands of people flood the Westwood, the Lions are urging the public to dig deep give generously, Mr. Ford added;

“We hope people will come and enjoy the night with us and give generously. The Bonfire and Firework Display cost of around £7,000 to the Lions Club.”

“By putting a donation in the buckets of the collectors we can again give everyone a night to remember next year.”
