A ‘hauntingly’ good Halloween treasure hunt is being held in Beverley during next week’s half-term, with a whole host of prizes to be won.
Beverley Community Lift and Yorkshire Cancer Research have teamed up to organise the event, which they hope will provide a fun activity for families during the school holidays, and also raise funds for these two local charities.
Speaking about the event, Jan Stainforth CEO Beverley Community Lift said: “Our fun Hallowe’en-themed treasure hunt is taking place from Saturday 22nd October until 29th October, in Beverley town centre. We will be in Toll Gavel in our fancy dress Hallowe’en costumes on Saturday 22nd October to launch the event, so please come along to say hello and pick up your entry form.
“All proceeds will go to local charities Beverley Community Lift and Yorkshire Cancer Research, to help us continue to support local people. Beverley Community Lift provides a caring and supportive community transport service to get elderly and disabled people out and about, and Yorkshire Cancer Research helps scientists and doctors across the region find out more about cancer, how to prevent and treat it, stop people getting cancer and make people who have cancer better again.”
Explaining more about the fundraising treasure hunt, Jan said: “Taking part is easy: simply pick up an entry form for the small cost of £5 per family, from either Vanessa’s Café, or Parkway Cinema; and then find letter clues located in local shops and businesses in the town to solve the puzzle of a well-known Hallowe’en word or phrase. To make the task slightly easier, the entry form includes a list of businesses where clues can be found. There are some great prizes to be won, including tickets to The Deep; pantomime tickets; and tickets to Piglet’s Adventure Farm in York.”
East Yorkshire’s Regional Fundraiser for Yorkshire Cancer Research Adrienne Hodgson said: “I would encourage everyone to come along and support this event which will be great fun for families of all ages. We’ve got some ‘fang-tastic’ prizes to be won. So make sure you post your completed entry forms through the front door at Beverley Community Lift on Corporation Road in Beverley before the ‘deadline’ of midnight on 31st October to be in with a chance of winning.”
Adrienne continued: “This is a family event being held in Beverley by two local charities whose aim is to help people in the local community. Yorkshire Cancer Research is the only cancer charity in Yorkshire where all the money raised goes back to helping people in Yorkshire.”
The Hallowe’en Treasure Hunt is being supported by Beverley and District Chamber of Trade. Beverley Building Society is one of the businesses participating, and CEO Peter Myers explained their involvement: “At the Society we take a lot of pride in supporting the local community, as we have been a member of it for 150 years. We are enthusiastic supporters of Beverley Community Lift, and we were really excited to hear about their fundraising activity in partnership with Yorkshire Cancer Research, both fantastic local causes.”
Zoe Fisher, Marketing Manager at the Society said: “The Beverley Community Lift and Yorkshire Cancer Research teams have really put the ‘fun’ into fundraising with their Halloween treasure hunt. It’s really nice that we could be part of it and we hope more people get involved and donate!”
