Beverley girl Ruby Hulse will be dancing her way across all 2200m of the Humber Bridge as she takes part in the DofE Diamond Challenge.
The 16 year old plans to use Pirouettes (spins), grand jetés (leaps), Chaînés (linked turns), split leaps, travelling jumps and high kick her way the entire length.
Speaking about her challenge Ruby said;
“I have lots of hobbies and though I’ve been very tempted I’ve never got around to taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. That is until now!”
“In celebration of the Diamond Anniversary, the Duke of Edinburgh invited everyone to take part in the once-in-a-lifetime 2016 Diamond Challenge which will help to raise funds to help transform young lives.”
Throughout 2016 people across the UK have been asked to choose their challenge from three DofE-inspired themes. Learn a skill, embark on an adventure or conquer a personal challenge, and raise a minimum of £60 for the Charity.
Ruby who has been dancing for nine years explained how she came up with the idea dancing across the Humber Bridge, she said;
“I have been dancing since I was seven and my dance teacher Miss Rachael is amazing. After hours of agonising over what challenge I should take on, it suddenly seemed obvious. Why not dance over the Humber Bridge?”
“I’m an Explorer Scout and I love challenges – but usually in a team so this is something completely different for me! It’s so important that everyone has the opportunity to take part in challenges which all help to widen our horizons and help us to cope in difficult situations.”
“My challenge has to be completed by the end of 2016 so I have set the date – Sunday 4 December, the day after my Grade 5 Tap and Modern exams.”
“Come rain or shine I’ll be there!”
Ruby is looking to raise £60 – a pound for each year since the charity was formed. Donations can be made through her just giving page;
