Beverley RUFC Under 14s entertained Roundhegians at Home this weekend in what turned out to be a tough challenging game, but ended in disappointment for the Beverley team and brought to a close a five match winning streak.

Although a competitive Roundhegians were more clinical in the finish and this ultimately reflected in the score line, the match was a good test and in light of their forthcoming semi-final, some minor improvements will need to be made, but the scoreline didn’t truly reflect how competitive the game was.

From the kick off the pace of the game was ferocious, both sides looked to make their mark on the match, Jasper Ghio ran hard and was difficult to keep down, Tom Barnard again was strong and good performances from Josh Dillon and Harry Hesleton in the second row.

Roundhegians managed two early tries before Nathan Cullen and Harry Gunn left the field with injuries, and a reshuffle in the back line left the Beverley team a little jaded.

Hegians again managed a further two tries in the first half, leaving the tie at 24-0

In the second half the team re-grouped and started to show the good rugby that they have played throughout the season, the forwards worked hard and backs closed the line well, good performances from Cameron Lawley and Sam Cook in the pack staked their claim for a starting line up.

Other good performances in the back from Adam Skeates, Sam Acaster, Aaron Wearing, Dan Bryans and Tom Haylock.

As Beverley pushed and pressured the Hegians attack a Barnard interception allowed him to score under the posts, converted by Eden Quantock.

Beverley continued to put pressure on the visitors line, first Ben Walker was held up over the line from a scrum attack, Ghio was also held up over the line as he tried to place the ball on the ground and finally Barnard just ground short of the line after a quick penalty tap.

A good work out by Beverley who will need to be slightly more clinical in the coming weeks, a lot of positives to take away and some good work on’s to practice in training over the next few weeks.

Parents Player of the week went to Barnard and Coaches to Ghio.

Final Score: Beverley RUFC 7 Roundhegians 31
